“Renovating101” – Timing is crucial!!!

Timing and planning is everything when it comes to renovating. Check out the “renovating 101” feature in this months November issue of Home Beautiful Magazine for expert timeline guides provided by Darren James… a few of our projects feature too!

Here is a sneak peak of the  kitchen and bathroom timeline guides provided by Darren James…

 

Kitchen Renovation Timeline:

WEEK 1

  • Services for electrical and plumbing disconnected
  • Cabinetry and old appliances removed
  • Windows and framework relocated
  • rough in (installation of main services – plumbing and electrical)

 

 

WEEK 2

  • Plasterer “Sheeting setting and sanding” can take up to a week (sometimes longer) depending on the size and complexity of the job
  •  Timber flooring (if selected) to be installed

WEEK 3 + 4

  • Cabinetry installed
  • Floor tiles laid
  • Stone (or custom) benchtops installed
  • Splashback tiles laid (if you are using painted glass or a custom surface it will need to be templated to fit your space which can take anywhere up to 2 weeks)

WEEK 5 + 6

  • custom splashback installed (if selected)
  • Paint
  • Electrical and plumbing fit off completed
  • Appliances, lighting and tapware installed
  • Final Adjustments

 

Bathroom Renovation Timeline:

WEEK 1

  • Disconnection of all services
  • Demolition and old fittings and fixtures and tiles stripped out
  • Wall sheets removed if necessary
  • If the bathroom is located on a second story and plumbing or electrical needs to be moved, this needs to be completed before the new ceramic tile underlay can be laid (this is not required on a concrete slab)
  • Rough in of plumbing and electrical

WEEK 2

  • wall and ceiling plastered
  • set and sand joints where required
  • water proofing (receive a certificate for certification)

WEEK 3

  • Joinery (vanity etc) installed
  • Floor is bedded to obtain correct falls for floor waste and shower waste
  • Floor and wall tiles laid

WEEK 4

  • Plumbing fit off completed
  • shower screens measure (custom made ones can take up to 10 days to manufacture)
  • ceiling and untiled wall to be painted
  • Electrical fit-off including lights, power points and exhaust fans

WEEK 5 + 6

  • Shower screen installed
  • Final touch ups
