Founded in Brisbane in 2005, Darren James brings together building design, interior design and construction within one studio. Led by Darren James and Elissa Greer, our team specialises in transforming existing homes through extensive renovations, extensions and apartment transformations.
Our studio was founded on a shared appreciation for great design, craftsmanship and the way a home can influence everyday life. Darren and Elissa bring different perspectives to the business, united by a passion for creating beautiful spaces and an understanding that the best homes reflect the people who live in them.
Every home presents its own opportunities, from the character of the existing architecture to the possibilities of a new layout. We approach each project with curiosity, creative thinking and an understanding of how people want to live, bringing fresh ideas to homes that already have a story to tell.
Behind every Darren James project is a team of building designers, interior designers and construction professionals who share an understanding of the complete home. Working closely together, we bring creativity, technical knowledge and craftsmanship to every stage, ensuring the original design vision carries through to the finished result.

Darren James
With a background in fine craftsmanship and more than 27 years of experience, Darren brings a unique perspective to residential design and construction. Trained by a Danish master craftsman, his career began in custom boat building before evolving into building design, interiors and construction. His understanding of both design and the building process shapes the studio’s approach to transforming existing homes.
Elissa Greer
As co-founder of Darren James, Elissa plays a central role in the direction and day-to-day operations of the studio. With a background in interior design and styling, she brings a refined eye for detail and an appreciation for beautiful spaces, while overseeing the people, processes and client experience that shape the business. Her approach balances creativity with a genuine commitment to ensuring every project is thoughtfully managed from beginning to end.
