We packed our bags and headed off to Melbourne this week for one of Australia’s leading interior trade events – Decoration + Design!
It was an action packed couple of days, both of us nursing sore feet by the end of it, but was so worth it – even with the flight delays (is it just me or do airlines and airports seem to be getting worse these days???).
Anyway, we had so much fun catching up with our suppliers and checking out what was new in the world of interiors and furnishings from some Australia’s leading companies. So here is a little taste of what we saw…
These gorgeous polypropylene outdoor rugs would look stunning in an outdoor alfresco area and they can be completely hosed down. Such a beautiful colour range too.
So perfect for a boys room, we loved this classic Junior bed linen made from pure cotton with a herringbone yarn dyed weave on the front in light grey, reversing to a fun geometric print adding a touch of colour. Doesn’t the contrasting piped edge in yellow just finish it off!!!
Here is something different in the way of display shelving. Love that they would suit both a classic or slightly modern and industrial space…
These retro swing tables remind me of an old school sewing box – but are the perfect size for a bedside. Would look super cute in a child’s room! Also available in a range of funky colours.
Whilst at Decoration + Design, we checked out DESIGN: MADE: TRADE which represents a curated forum showcasing some of the very best art and design studio’s here in Australia. It was such a pleasure to meet some of the design communities most inspiring and talented people.
Check out this gorgeous handmade porcelain tableware from Ingrid Tufts who is selling her work under her own label Tufts. You may see some of her work in one of Melbourne’s well know restaurant and eating house Cumulus Inc. It was from here that she was able to establish clientele for her own custom work.
We absolutely fell in love with these handmade merino wool sustainable lighting designed by the gorgeous and talented Luna Lana…
So that you feel like you are always on holidays the clever Trunk and Orderly have created these chest of drawers. Check out there website for other cool designs.
As some of us had to keep working (an others clearly needed a rest) we then headed back to the gorgeous Crown Metropol which we highly recommend if you need to stay on this side of the Yarra, It’s such a beautiful hotel and the service impeccable.
We managed to take a quick dip in the heated pool which has THE most amazing view of the city. Check it out!! And yes, for Offspring fans this is the pool that Nina swam in prior to going into labour with Patricks baby!!!!
Feeling refreshed and hungry we headed across the river to Movida for some yummy tapas! I highly recommend the original Movida Bar de Tapas – which is the one on the corner – and yes there are three Movida’s in Melbourne so it can get confusing. But if you are after a truly authentic Spanish experience you can’t go past it. Can’t wait to go back!!
Love you Melbourne…. see you in a couple of weeks for Life In Style and Reed Gift Fair
