HOW TO – Kitchen Styling

Happy Friday!

As the team finishes up another week in the new studio, and the renovation really starts to take shape! As loud, and sometimes stinky (paint and resin fumes hahaha) as the studio renovation has been, we are super excited to be apart of this transformation – quite literally seeing it come to life each step at a time. Even had our beautiful fluted glass and marble bench tops and splash backs installed this week!

So as we see our very own Darren James kitchen become a reality, we have already been thinking about how we can style it up!!! So we thought we would share some of our top tips to kitchen styling – our go to essentials!

SINK SIDE ESSENTIAL TRAYS

Our first, and definitely favorite styling tip is certainly  the decorative tray! Placing one beside your sink is a perfect way to house all your sink side essentials – soap dispenser, detergent and wooden kitchen tools.  Giving them both a practical place to live, in a beautiful aesthetic way. Something which suits your kitchens colour palette and has water resistant qualities is best.

BEAUTIFUL CERAMICS

We love ceramics! Gorgeous hand made pieces and rustic pottery have a special spot in our heart (and in our kitchens). Whether they are a treasured family heirloom or a recent boutique find, they deserve to be celebrated in the kitchen – not just hidden away in storage! We love to pair them with some quality linen table wear, complimenting the organic shapes and rustic textures.

UTILITY CUPBOARDS

Utility cupboards are an absolute essential for us, and they feature in our projects more often then not! Wherever a space allows for one, or three it is always at the top of our priority. Integrating a workable bench space, with shelving, drawers and power make for a perfect prep area with plenty of oppurtinty for styling (and can be completely concealed when not in use or looking a mess!) Try adding mason jars and fresh organics for your pantry contents, paired with your essential kitchen appliances or just keep it simple with your best glass wear. Definitely no where else I’d want to make my morning coffee!

PLENTY OF GREENERY

We love including indoor plants in all our projects, as they are such a great way to add life, character and greenery to you space! We tend to opt for some ‘devils ivy’ or a lush ‘swiss plant’ leaf, often layering the greenery against timber or marble trays and the materials and hues of the kitchen. Or if keeping a plant alive indoors isn’t your specialty, go for a floral arrangement! There are so many beautiful bouquets you can pick up from your local market or florist to inject both colour and life into your space.

DECORATIVE FEATURES

Who said adding a feature to your kitchen had to be complicated? Most of the time it really is the simpler the better! Whether it’s a circular slab of marble or a handcrafted timber tray, adding only a few items and keeping things minimal allows the art of the piece itself to take precedence. Our favorite combination is always adding a touch of greenery with a statement decorative dish, and contrasting the materials. Materiality surely is key too, so make sure you select features with beautiful colours or finishes to ensure they will grab the eye (and often a great talking point!)
