Art Hotel Meets Traditional Home - Our Ascot Residence

First came the kitchen …. now to the furnishings! We had so much fun weaving this traditional Ascot beauty into a transitional art hotel inspired oasis!

We were engaged to remodel the existing lower level kitchen, dining and living spaces as well as updating the interior to better reflect the clients’ personalities. The newlyweds had purchased the substantial traditional style home with the existing furniture and were nonplussed with the staid “grey on grey” interiors which they felt did not reflect their style. As the project was a renovation rather than a new build the challenge was to bring in a new style perspective which still sat within the traditional design language of the existing home. Avid travelers, the clients wanted to bring the international design they loved back home to Brisbane.

Stylistically, the brief was to create an interior that was transitional, rich in detail and celebrated authenticity. To inject some personality as well as meet the brief, we developed an overall inspiration of a European art hotel with iconic international designs, splashes of colour and a mix of textures used throughout. This sense of fun and luxury balanced the more traditional architectural elements such as the new cabinetry, timber floors, molding and ceiling detailing.

For the furnishings selections a rich jewel toned palette was developed. Custom items such as the deco inspired entry rug and dining room rug, as well as the dining table were developed in-house and then mixed with international design icons from Space, Living Edge, Domo and Dedece for an international and ageless feel. All the elements of the design combine to give this traditional home a modern and glamorous edge with a sense of international style.

The custom cabinetry formed the heavier more traditional elements of the design. The products used were chosen for their natural beauty with stone, custom solid timber doors and machined brass detailing throughout. These elements came together to give the design a sense of solidness and continuity. The custom designed dining table by our friends over at Christopher Blank boasts a level of unique detail like no other! The scalloped timber base, marble plinth and solid marble table top show off the artistry and craftsmanship of handmade custom design.
