6 Ways to Elevate your Entry

  • News

Living Area

First impressions are everything…and the same goes with your home!
There is always a lot of focus around designing the ‘big ticket’ spaces such as the kitchen and bathroom but of equal importance area all the spaces in-between including the entry of your home!

Elevating your entry way goes beyond addressing how the space looks… it’s also about looking at how the space functions, whether that be storage, lighting and more!

Your entry should always feel comfortable and inviting for yourself and your guests, and there are a variety of ways to achieve this that will instantly elevate your entryway, no matter your style of home!

Let’s take a look;

Lighting

We can’t stress enough how important lighting is in a space!

Natural light is fabulous, however it’s important to consider how your entry will look once the sun goes down.  Whether that be a feature pendant or wall washing wall sconce.  We love the use of indirect light, and how it can interact and bounce around a space, try looking at wall washing sconces or concealed lighting options to really set the ambience of the space. And if a hardwired light is not an option, then something as simple as placing a decorative table lamp on your entry console can create just the impact you need!

Art

Art is almost always a must for us when it comes to the entry!  Being such a meaningful and personal piece, you can really introduce yourself and your home to your guests.  The entry is the perfect spot to really showcase your artwork and give it the impact it deserves!  One single hero piece or maybe even a gallery wall can do just the trick in filling those often blank spaces.

Wall/ Ceiling treatment

When it comes to really elevating your entryway, you must consider going beyond just the furnishings. Wall and ceiling treatments have really evolved over the years and can really give your space that ‘wow’ factor.  Whether that’s wainscoting on the walls, or some beautiful timber cladding on the ceiling. It might even be a matter of continuing the materiality you have outside for a seamless transition to the outdoors – check out our blog where were share our design tips to bringing the outdoors in!

Console Table

Every home needs somewhere to store your keys and bits and pieces and a console table is the perfect addition to your entry if the space permits. Whether it be a simple table or one that includes concealed storage there is a variety of styles and sizes to choose from to perfectly suit your style of home. Paired with some artwork/mirror and styling accessories and you have the perfect styling opportunity to fill a blank wall that serves as aesthetics and function!

Rug

Above all else, your entryway must be inviting!  Nothing is more welcoming than warmth and that can come in the form of textiles and texture. Rather than just the standard old door mat, how about a rug? The amount of customisation available you can really play with the size and shape to perfectly suit your style of home!  Fibres have really evolved over the years that concerns about durability and maintenance is a thing of the past! We often like to look at natural fibres such as wool for heavy traffic areas as they are capable of withstanding any typical mishaps.

Plants

Last but certainly not least, bringing in some life! Flora and fauna of some sort works in any style of home and can make a huge impact in the overall aesthetic of the space. Whether it be a potted indoor tree or a small pot plant draped over your console table or shelf.  Not the greatest plant enthusiast? Dried florals are for you! No maintenance and everlasting!
