Opening your front door to a beautiful entry!

We are suckers for a beautiful entry space! Whether it’s a bold statement mirror, large over sized art work or a styled console table – creating the perfect entry definitely has an art to it. There really is nothing that can beat the first impression made upon opening the front door. The view through your entry way is the one that welcomes you home after a long day, introduces guests to your style and gives passers by a glimpse into who you are! So crafting this space to speak your message and leave the right impression can be really important!

Today we thought we could share a few of our go to looks and styling techniques when it comes to designing any entry space –

ENTRY TABLE ESSENTIALS –

Always have been and always will be a big fan of a console table by the front door, paired with some beautiful styling pieces. Not only does it give you the opportunity to show off a few of your favorite home accessories, but serves as a useful location for all your pocket or handbag clutter like your keys and wallet. Our entry table styling essentials always consist of some beautiful pieces which pull colours from around the space or neighboring elements like art or rugs. These accessories usually consist of ceramic or glass vases with fresh botanicals, a decorative tray / dish, a trinket box and possibly a nice hardcover book.

MIRROR + CONSOLE COMBO –

It can be a hard decision to make – To put art or a mirror above your entry console? Honestly we find the decision difficult as well as we love the look of both, however it really depends on what your space needs. A mirror can be a great way to add some extra dimension to the space, and increase the sense of scale in those narrow entry hallways. Plus with so many amazing feature mirror designs surfacing lately it can definitely be an artwork in itself! Check out some of the mirrors we featured in one of our latest blogs.

INBUILT BENCH SEATING –

Bench seating by the front door allows for a visual break along a hallway or large blank wall / nook.  So whether you opt for built in seating or a freestanding bench, it makes for a great place to kick the shoes off, dump the school bags or enjoy your latest design mag!  Adding storage to otherwise wasted spaces below bench seating can be a wonderful way of not only maximizing floor space but also adding eye catching joinery details. Our favorite combination is some rich timber joinery, custom leather seating and a few decorative cushions – perfect way to create a retreat style nook to relax in, so why not add the benefit of extra storage?!

HALL WAY RUG –

I don’t know about you, but we are rug obsessed!  We are always hunting for new and unique rugs, and will find just about anywhere to put them – Living, kitchen, bathroom, outdoor, you name it! There is just something so inviting about a gorgeous plush rug, so who’s to say you can’t make use of one in your entry?! Narrow hallways scream for a beautiful detailed runner, while generous wide open entryways lend themselves to a nice big free form or organically shaped rug.

INTEGRATED GREENERY –

There’s never anywhere we won’t inject some greenery (as you have probably noticed). Creating a smooth integration from the outdoors to the indoors through plant life allows for a seamless transition. We love the way built in planters both frame the greenery and add a sculptural element to the space – Much like in our Underwood Residence below! If your entry does not allow for this then potted plants are your way to go. We love a luscious big rubber plant or olive tree for some added height and dimesion.
